Based in Melbourne

We're seeking a Postdoctoral Artificial Intelligence Scientist (Research Officer) to join our new Systems Medicine and Bioinformatics laboratory.

  • Design, build, and evaluate AI-driven models for prediction, risk stratification, and biological discovery in cardiovascular research.
  • Work with high-dimensional, multi-omics (genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, transcriptomics) datasets.
  • Develop and test neural network architectures designed for structured, multimodal, and longitudinal data.
  • Collaborate on AI approaches for modelling disease progression and clinical phenotypes.
  • Work closely with lab members to align AI methods with biomedical context, interpretability needs, and project goals.

As an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Scientist, you will apply advanced AI and machine learning to transform complex health data into actionable insights. Your work will directly support our vision to improve prevention, diagnosis, and outcomes in cardiovascular disease and diabetes, helping people live healthier for longer.

You will become a valued member of our innovative team at the Institute. Through this key role, you can contribute to our vision to help people to live healthier for longer, and to stop heart disease and diabetes in their tracks.

What will you bring?

  • Experience with modern AI frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Familiarity with deep learning architectures (e.g. transformers, contrastive learning, autoencoders, graph neural networks).
  • Understanding of machine learning fundamentals (e.g. loss functions, optimisation, regularisation, evaluation strategies).
  • Experience applying AI to biomedical, clinical, or omics data is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience working on high-performance computing, cluster and Unix environments.
  • Understanding of cardiovascular or metabolic diseases is beneficial, but not essential.
