Build. Iterate. Scale.
Temple & Webster is where design meets technology. As Australia's leading online retailer for furniture and homewares, we aren't just selling products; we are reimagining how people discover and shop for their homes. To do that, we need people who view AI as a craft, not just a toolset.
We are expanding our AI capability and are looking for an AI Implementation Engineer to join the team immediately. If you thrive on "what if," enjoy aggressive prototyping, and are driven to relentlessly iterate to find the right solution, we'd like to meet you.
The Role
This isn't a role for a siloed developer. At Temple & Webster, AI is integrated into our core operations. You will have a front-row seat to how a high-growth retailer functions, with the autonomy to identify friction points and build the agentic solutions that solve them.
You'll be moving beyond "chat" to build autonomous agents that execute real-world tasks - from supply chain logic to hyper-personalised customer journeys.
What we're looking for:
We value a curious mind and a builder's mindset over a rigid checklist. We're interested in:
- Commercial Curiosity: You don't just wait for a brief. You explore our ecosystem, identify where AI can remove manual toil, and build the prototypes to prove it.
- The "Ship and Refine" Mentality: We move fast. You should be comfortable with rapid experimentation - learning quickly from each iteration and refining until a solution is production-ready.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: You can bridge the gap between complex engineering and business impact. You'll partner with teams across T&W to understand their challenges and co-create solutions.
- Technical Depth: You bring a deep, practical background in generative AI, with a track record of building in commercial environments or via complex personal projects. You possess expert-level fluency in Python, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and the Google AI SDK. More importantly, you understand that while the model is key, the real work lies in the 80%: the data engineering, rigorous evaluation, and LLMOps required to move a project from demo to production.
What you'll be doing:
- Agentic Workflows: Designing AI agents that don't just talk, but do - integrating them into our core operational systems to remove manual toil.
- Hardening AI: Moving beyond the "demo" phase to build high-availability GenAI features with rigorous evaluation frameworks and observability.
- Iterating quickly: Prototyping new ideas aggressively while maintaining the security and architectural standards required for enterprise-scale deployment.
Why Temple & Webster?
- Real Impact: We're a tight-knit team where your code directly influences how millions of Australians shop.
- Engineering Culture: We believe in the right tool for the job. You'll have the space to experiment with the latest in the AI stack (LangGraph, DSPy, etc.) to solve real retail problems.
- The T&W Way: Our culture is built on our people. We provide a beautiful workspace in St Peters, hybrid flexibility, catered lunches three days a week, and a genuine focus on wellbeing (including daily mindfulness and birthday leave) amongst many benefits.
