Data Scientist

At AKQA, our Invention Team sets the standard for frontier AI and data science-led delivery, helping clients maximise ROI from emerging technologies. We equip teams with the tools, support and experimentation frameworks to turn signals into scalable systems with measurable impact.

As Lead Applied AI Scientist, you will partner with clients to build future-facing products and prototypes. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage stakeholders, and ensure initiatives meet scope, time and budget while upholding rigorous and responsible engineering.

At AKQA, you’ll work in an innovative, inclusive culture, contribute to global Invention Sprints, and access ongoing development within a hybrid in‑studio/WFH model.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Lead integration of ML/AI, translating emerging research into products and prototypes.
  • Own end‑to‑end delivery from opportunity framing to deployment; manage scope, time and budget.
  • Set technical direction and mentor data scientists/ML engineers.
  • Drive rapid prototyping in Invention Sprints; build proofs of concept that unlock larger engagements.
  • Ensure best practices across data, models and MLOps; maintain clear documentation and governance.
  • Act as the central point across client, strategy, design and engineering; communicate and track milestones.
  • Manage agile and waterfall delivery; own SOWs, project plans and financial performance.
  • Preferred qualifications: Master’s in a relevant field or 6+ years in AI/data science; strong Python and ML frameworks; experience in generative AI, NLP, predictive modeling, MLOps, or cloud AI.
  • We welcome applications from recent ML/AI PhD graduates and early-stage postdoctoral researchers.

QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS

  • Champion AKQA’s values and the Invention ethos of curiosity and active creation.
  • Deliver quality work with measurable outcomes and responsible AI.
  • Build strong senior client relationships; simplify complex AI concepts.
  • Collaborative across disciplines; bridge research and real‑world application.
  • Guide conversations to alignment; constructively challenge and propose alternatives.
  • Embrace continuous improvement.

We believe great work happens when we're together, fostering creativity, collaboration, and connection. That's why we’ve adopted a hybrid approach including required in-office days. If you require accommodations or flexibility, please discuss this with the hiring team during the interview process.
