The AI Technical Project Lead will evaluate technical options, collaborate directly with developers to guide solution design and implementation, and ensure infrastructure, security, and responsible AI principles are embedded in delivery. It requires strong technical literacy in architecture, and AWS cloud services, combined with delivery leadership skills to ensure projects are responsibly implemented, human-centred, and aligned with organisational priorities.
The role will also work closely with the Innovation Manager and Senior Project Lead, Data Insights Lead, and the Developers.

We collaborate with lawyers and barristers to build platforms that are transforming how pro bono work is done, including our Pro Bono Portal, Firm Manager, and Justice Connect Answers. By designing scalable tools and strengthening the access to justice ecosystem, we’re reimagining how legal support is delivered and experienced.

What you will achieve in the roleIn this role, you’ll work to deliver AI projects that improve access to legal help by designing and implementing secure, ethical, and user-centred technology solutions. You will lead the planning, scoping, technical design, and deployment of AI tools, ensuring alignment with Justice Connect’s infrastructure, privacy, and responsible AI standards.
Working closely with developers and stakeholders, you will translate organisational needs into clear technical outcomes and support effective integration across core platforms. You will measure project impact, refine solutions based on evidence, and help teams adopt AI-enabled tools. In addition, you will also contribute to strategic discussions on emerging AI technologies and their potential to improve service efficiency and user experience.

The position reports to the Innovation Manager in the Innovation team.
Employment is a 12-month, fixed term contract, full time (37.5 hours per week).
The salary for this role is $96,350.14 per annum (pro-rata), plus 12% superannuation, with annual leave loading and generous salary packaging options.
This role can be based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Boon Wurrung Country, or our Sydney CBD office on Gadigal Country. We have flexible hybrid working arrangements, so you’ll spend 40% of your time in the office each month.
