AI Engineer – AI GTM Engine Room - Consultant and Senior Consultant

The Opportunity

Join EY's AI GTM Engine Room, a high-velocity build capability at the centre of our Oceania AI growth strategy. As an AI Engineer, you will contribute to the experimentation, prototyping and deployment of advanced AI and Generative AI solutions that support client pursuits, industry demonstrations and scalable sector offerings. Working with leading foundation models and orchestration frameworks, you will help translate emerging capabilities into practical, commercially viable solutions.

Within the AI Labs Engine Room, you will have access to enterprise-grade environments, advanced tooling and significant model and compute capacity, enabling you to experiment and iterate at scale within secure enterprise guardrails. You will work alongside senior engineers and architects to move from concept to working solution at pace, contribute to reusable AI accelerators and support the maturation of successful prototypes into scalable enterprise deployments.

This role can be performed from any EY office across Australia. Flexible work arrangements may be considered.

Your key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the prototyping and deployment of AI and Generative AI solutions to support client pursuits, sector use cases and demonstrations.
  • Develop and test LLM-powered applications and agentic workflows under guidance, including tool or function calling patterns.
  • Support engineering of data-driven architectures across cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Assist in developing scalable AI systems with embedded Responsible AI and security controls.
  • Apply MLOps and LLMOps practices including experimentation tracking, model testing and deployment support.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines integrating structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Work with vector databases alongside relational and NoSQL systems.
  • Support deployment of AI workloads using platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Collaborate with architects, sector teams and engineers to transition proof-of-concepts toward production-ready solutions.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Foundational knowledge of AI, machine learning and Generative AI, with hands-on exposure to LLMs such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Llama.
  • Experience with prompt engineering and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or similar tooling.
  • Understanding of agentic systems and workflow automation concepts.
  • Exposure to MLOps or LLMOps practices.
  • Strong Python programming capability and API development fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with modern data stores and vector databases.
  • Cloud platform exposure across AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Awareness of Responsible AI principles and security considerations.
  • Strong curiosity, learning agility and problem-solving mindset.

Ideally, you'll also have the skills and attributes below but don't worry if you don't tick all the boxes. We're interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Experience contributing to AI proofs-of-concept or internal accelerators.
  • Exposure to evaluation frameworks or structured experimentation environments.
  • A degree in computer science, engineering, data science or a related discipline.
