At IAG, we're ready for you. We're the largest general insurance group in Australia and New Zealand. Our family of brands turns the IAG purpose of making your world a safer place into action by helping everyday Aussies and New Zealanders, supporting their ambitions and making insurance accessible. Join IAG's AI and Engineering Expert Unit to orchestrate the next generation of ethical agentic decision systems. As a key member of our cross-functional squads, you will bridge the gap between visionary design and production-grade reality, collaborating with Product Owners to deliver advanced ML and Generative AI solutions across the enterprise. You won't just write code; you will act as a supervisor and orchestrator of coding agents, leveraging RAG, fine-tuned LLMs/SLMs, and specialized memory systems to achieve massive software outcomes. We are looking for a pioneer who thrives on continuous learning and is ready to push the boundaries of agentic development in a high-impact, ethical framework.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design and delivery of complex agentic systems, including multi‑agent or orchestrated architectures.
- Own agentic solutions end‑to‑end, from system design through production operation and optimisation.
- Define and implement agent architecture patterns, including planning, memory, tool orchestration and control flows.
- Set technical direction and standards for agentic systems within delivery teams.
- Establish evaluation and monitoring approaches for reliability, safety, latency, cost and business impact.
- Supervise and orchestrate coding agents and AI‑assisted workflows to deliver reliable software outcomes.
- Mentor junior engineers and uplift team capability in agentic engineering practices.
- Partner with Product, Architecture and Risk to ensure solutions align with IAG strategy and guardrails.
- Contribute to the evolution of IAG's agentic engineering standards and roadmap.
This is a permanent role and offers a flexible hybrid work model based in Gadigal Country (Darling Park 2, Sydney) or Naarm (Melbourne).
What You'll Bring
- Strong experience designing and building agentic systems using LLMs, including planning, tool use, memory and orchestration.
- Hands‑on experience with agent frameworks and patterns (e.g. single‑agent, multi‑agent, supervisor/worker, tool‑calling, reflection and self‑critique).
- Deep understanding of prompt engineering, context engineering and retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) for agentic use cases.
- Experience evaluating and operating LLM‑powered systems in production, including reliability, safety, cost and performance trade‑offs.
- Experience working with commercial LLM platforms (e.g. Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) and managing model selection and versioning.
- Experience designing and operating vector databases, knowledge stores and memory systems for agentic applications.
- Strong understanding of data quality, provenance and lifecycle considerations when data is used as agent context or memory.
- Experience implementing observability for agent behaviour, including tracing, logging and outcome analysis.
What We Offer
- Boosted superannuation with 13% as standard.
- 20 days annual leave + 5 days MyLeave (extra leave for what's important to you).
- Work from home and many more flexibility options with myFlex.
- Up to 50% off personal insurance, including home and motor insurance.
- Partner discounts on private health insurance, tech & appliances, and many more.
- Industry-leading 20 weeks paid parental leave.
- Access to LinkedIn Learning, the award-winning IAG Academy, study assistance and secondment opportunities.
