Description

Remember when everyone suddenly became an AI expert? A few years ago it was sourdough ... Then everyone was an epidemiologist ... Then an economist ... Then a property guru. Now everyone's got ChatGPT open in another tab and confidently declaring, "AI will solve everything."

Spoiler alert: it won't. At least not without someone who knows the difference between "that's a cool demo" and "that'll actually save this business hundreds of hours a month."

That's where you come in.

We're looking for an AI Consultant who can help Australian businesses move beyond the novelty and into the genuinely useful. Someone who's just as comfortable talking to a CEO about strategy as they are helping a team discover their first practical AI use case. Someone who's curious enough to keep learning because, let's be honest, the AI landscape changes more often than Melbourne's weather.

If you've ever found yourself saying "Yes, AI can do that... but should it?" then we should probably have a chat.

About First Focus

First Focus is Australia's leading mid-market Managed Service Provider, and we've held the #1 MSP spot in Australia on Cloudtango for nine consecutive years. We've been growing for more than 15 years and now have almost 500 people across Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines.

We're big enough to work with some fantastic customers and tackle genuinely interesting technology challenges, but small enough that you're still a person, not employee number 11,482. You'll have leaders who know your name, colleagues who'll happily jump in to help, and customers who see you as a trusted advisor rather than someone who just resets passwords.

We believe smart people do their best work when they're trusted, supported, and given room to grow. It's a surprisingly effective strategy.

Why you'll love this role

This isn't about building another chatbot because someone saw one on LinkedIn. You'll work directly with organisations that genuinely want to rethink how they operate using AI. You'll influence executive teams, shape strategy, run engaging workshops, design practical solutions and help customers adopt AI responsibly.

Some days you'll be mapping out an AI roadmap. Other days you'll be helping a client discover that automating six hours of repetitive work each week is actually more exciting than the latest flashy demo. That's a good week in our books.

What you'll be doing

Identify AI opportunities that improve business outcomes and operational efficiency.
Translate business challenges into practical AI use cases and implementation roadmaps.
Lead AI discovery workshops with customers and key stakeholders.
Champion AI adoption across client organisations and build confidence through education.
Advise customers on AI strategy, governance and responsible AI practices.
Design and recommend AI solutions using leading platforms including OpenAI and Anthropic.
Build trusted relationships with executives and operational teams alike.
Stay across emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities that create real value for customers.
Work closely with technical and consulting teams to deliver successful client outcomes.

What we're looking for

We're not looking for someone who's memorised every model released since breakfast. We're looking for someone who's endlessly curious. You'll probably bring:

Experience in technology consulting, digital transformation or AI advisory.
Strong understanding of generative AI platforms, ideally OpenAI and/or Anthropic.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts in plain English.
Experience facilitating workshops and engaging stakeholders at all organisational levels.
Confidence advising customers on AI governance, ethics and responsible adoption.
Commercial thinking with the ability to balance innovation and practical business outcomes.
A proactive, self-motivated approach and the confidence to work independently.
A genuine passion for learning because AI certainly isn't slowing down for anyone.

Why First Focus?

You'll receive:

Competitive salary package including up to $110,000 + super + other benefits.*

Free access to Uprise, including confidential 1:1 coaching with qualified psychologists and counsellors.
Flexible hybrid working to support work-life balance.
Our "Never Stop Growing" program, including 10 paid study days each year, certification exam fees and salary increases for completed certifications (conditions apply).
Frequent internal technical training and access to an extensive learning library.
FastTrack mentoring program.
Opportunities to work with cutting-edge AI technologies and help shape our AI practice.
A genuinely supportive culture where people share knowledge rather than hoard it.
Our MAD (Making A Difference) Council supporting equality, charity and environmental initiatives.
Option to package a Tesla company car (conditions apply).
Regular social events, great people and plenty of laughs along the way.

One of our values is Live Curiously, and this role is probably its best example. We believe asking "Why?" and "What if?" leads to better ideas, better technology and better customer outcomes. If that sounds like your kind of environment, you'll fit right in.

Ready to help shape what AI actually looks like in Australian businesses?

If you're excited by solving real business problems, love learning, enjoy working with customers and believe AI is at its best when it helps people rather than replaces them, we'd love to hear from you.

Bring your curiosity. We'll bring the customers. We'll figure out the future together.
