This highly respected, market leading Australian consulting and technology firm partners with Defence and Federal Government agencies to solve complex national challenges. Operating at the intersection of engineering, data and emerging technology, the organisation blends technical depth with creative problem-solving to deliver mission-focused digital capability.

As part of its expanding Data & AI division, the firm is establishing a new internal product development group to design and build a next-generation Defence AI platform. This capability will support the full Defence project lifecycle — from requirements definition and systems modelling, through to integration workflows, testing processes and decision-support tooling.

We are seeking two AI Engineers / Developers to join this foundational team. These roles will suit ambitious, smart engineers who are passionate about AI, modern software development and Defence technology — and who want to contribute to a new flagship capability from the ground up.

Australian citizenship is essential to enable future security clearance eligibility.
Key Responsibilities Technical Delivery & Engineering
  • Contribute to the design and development of AI-enabled software components for a new Defence lifecycle platform.
  • Assist in building prototypes, data pipelines and integration layers using modern engineering practices.
  • Support the exploration and application of machine learning, NLP and decision-support methods in Defence contexts.
  • Work with senior engineers to implement scalable, maintainable code aligned with internal standards.
  • Participate in testing, debugging, documentation and continuous enhancement of platform features.
Product Development & Innovation
  • Engage in rapid prototyping, ideation and iterative development sprints.
  • Assist in shaping user workflows, UX logic and platform functionality across requirements, integration and test workflows.
  • Support integration with Defence systems, datasets and modelling tools.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work with internal SMEs and Defence end-users to understand requirements and technical constraints.
  • Translate functional needs into technical tasks with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, development artefacts and progress reporting.
Practice Support & Growth
  • Contribute to delivery methodologies within the Data & AI division.
  • Participate in internal learning and mentoring activities.
  • Support demonstrations, internal showcases and capability development initiatives.
Ideal Candidate Essential
  • Foundational experience in one or more of the following:
    • Software development (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, or similar)
    • Machine learning or applied AI
    • Data engineering or model integration
    • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
    • API development and system integration
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Australian citizenship (mandatory) — ability to obtain AGSVA clearance.
Desirable
  • Exposure to Defence, Defence Industry or Federal Government environments.
  • Experience with:
    • NLP, LLMs or transformer-based models
    • MLOps / DevOps tooling
    • Git / CI/CD pipelines
    • Backend frameworks (FastAPI, Django, Node.js, etc.)
    • React, Angular or similar modern front-end frameworks
  • Understanding of systems engineering or Defence lifecycle frameworks.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, AI/ML, Software Engineering, Data Science, Mechatronics, or related fields.
