As the Staff Software Engineer working for Unloan at CBA, you will help drive business growth by driving innovation at the intersection of technology, security, and intelligent automation. You will help lead the strategic design and architecture of Unloan's platform, delivering complex, high-performance services and products that redefine digital lending. Operating in a full-stack, full-cycle engineering environment, you will build complex and highly scalable designs working with TypeScript, Next.js, Node.js, and GraphQL API, cloud native ensuring secure, scalable, and reliable solutions from inception to production.

Reporting directly to the Crew Tech Lead of Unloans Origination Crew you will drive Agentic AI and automation to streamline operations, enhance decision-making, and accelerate delivery. Through technical leadership and a deep systems mindset, they help shape a smarter, safer, and more autonomous future for digital finance.

At Unloan Originations, you'll be part of a focused, high-performing crew driving the three core chapters of our platform, Assessment, Settlement and Lender Experience. This is the engine room of Unloan, where real-time decisioning, intelligent workflows, and seamless settlement experiences come together to power a fully digital home loan journey. Every day, your work directly shapes how quickly customers receive answers, how smoothly applications move through the system, and how confidently we deliver on our promise of simplicity and transparency.

You'll work within a tight-knit team of engineers, product thinkers, and designers who own their domains end to end. The crew is currently focused on advancing AI-driven engineering across originations, embedding smarter assessment models, automating complex approval pathways, and reducing friction through intelligent document processing and decision support. This isn't experimentation for its own sake; it's purposeful innovation that improves speed, accuracy, and fairness at scale. Your impact will be visible daily in the features shipped, the performance improvements realised, and the customer outcomes enhanced.

Tech skills

We don't expect you to know everything, but experience in several of the following will set you up for success:

• Advanced proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js, and GraphQL, designing scalable, production-ready applications with a modern JavaScript architecture mindset.
• Practical experience with Generative AI frameworks and agentic AI patterns, applying automation to improve developer productivity and enhance customer experiences.
• Practical experience leveraging multi-agent capabilities within modern IDEs (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Opencode) to orchestrate complex development workflows, coordinating multiple AI agents to execute parallel and interdependent tasks.
• Applied commander/orchestrator design patterns to delegate work across specialized AI sub-agents (code generation, automated testing, documentation, refactoring), enabling structured task decomposition and efficient delivery of high-quality software outputs.
• Strong hands-on engineer, comfortable building complex systems, solving challenging problems, and delivering initiatives from concept through to deployment.
• Experience across AWS and Azure, with containerisation using Docker (Kubernetes exposure) and modern CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions.
• Focused on quality through automated testing (Jest, Storybook, Playwright) and embedding reliability into the development lifecycle.
• Leverage modern observability and monitoring platforms to ensure performance, scalability, and operational insight.
• Technical leader with a growth mindset, guiding teams through complex challenges while driving innovation in FinTech and product-led environments.
