We're REA

With bold and ambitious goals, REA Group is changing the way the world experiences property. No matter where you're at on your property journey, we're here to help with every step – whether that's finding or financing your next home.

Our people are the key to our success. At the heart of everything we do, is a thriving culture centred around high performance and care. We are purpose driven and collaborative, which drives innovation and our ability to make a real impact. As such, we're proud to have been named one of Australia's Best Workplaces four times since 2021 — including third place in 2025 — plus Best Workplace for Women in 2023 and Best Workplace in Technology in 2024 and 2025. These listings are testament to every person who helps make REA a great place to work.

Where the team fits in

The Data Engineering role sits within the Modernisation tribe (CuPID) and is part of the broader Customer Product & Experience group within REA Group. The CuPID Squad is responsible for designing and operating the pipelines and core customer datasets that provides customer insights from multiple systems into consistent, reliable data that are used by teams across REA.

You will join a dynamic team who owns all customer data across the business and is working to consolidate data from multiple legacy systems into a unified customer profile platform. The aim for this team is to improve data accuracy and enable personalization and machine learning capabilities for AI products at REA. This role will suit someone with strong technical rigour who thrives in cross team coordination.

What the role is all about

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines and datasets; participate in data transformation requests coming through a team board; collaborate with team members on implementation approach and determining the most efficient ways to tackle work.
  • The role is approximately 70-80% data engineering with opportunities to build out software engineering capabilities as Cupid's functionality expands.
  • The team works with many unknowns, requiring comfort with ambiguity and collaborative problem-solving rather than clear, predefined solutions.
  • Works closely with the senior and mid-level data engineers within the Cupid squad; collaborates with the data analyst on requirements; engages with other software engineering squads on cross-functional needs; interacts with Salesforce team and customer support team for data remediation.
  • The role involves determining accuracy of aggregated data and managing remediation across multiple source systems and customer teams, which requires strong technical rigor and cross-team coordination.

Who we're looking for

  • Someone with a strong knowledge of SQL, ideally with hands-on experience designing and building robust data pipelines.
  • Experience with data pipeline design and implementation.
  • Airflow or similar workflow orchestration tools.
  • BigQuery or equivalent data warehouse.
  • DBT or similar data transformation tool.
  • Strong data modelling skills and disciplined data quality practices.
  • A collaborative mindset- comfortable contributing ideas and shaping direction.
  • AWS or GCP cloud platform experience.
  • Experience from smaller teams were wearing multiple hats is required.

The physical, mental, emotional and financial health of our people is something we'll never stop caring about. This is a place to learn and grow. Some of our Perks & Benefits include:

  • A hybrid and flexible approach to working
  • Flexible leave options including, birthday leave and purchase additional leave

We believe teams with diverse ideas and experiences are more creative, more effective and fuel disruptive thinking. If you've got the skills, dedication and enthusiasm to learn but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch.
