System Policy and Planning Division (SPPD) is responsible for leading policy development and service planning across the Queensland Health system. SPPD works to ensure that services are delivered in a responsive and sustainable way, and that they are designed in a way that elevates the voice of clinicians and meets the diverse needs of Queenslanders.
About the role:
The Senior Data Scientist works within the Projections and Analytics Team and supports statewide health service planning for Queensland Health, by delivering advanced analysis, demand projections, service planning analytics and modelling to inform service planning and system‑level planning decisions.

Role fit:
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will have strong capability in data analysis, with the ability to source, interpret and critically evaluate qualitative and quantitative information to inform health service planning. You will bring advanced data manipulation and modelling skills, working confidently with platforms such as Azure, SQL Server, R/Posit, Power BI, Qlik and Tableau to identify patterns and deliver actionable insights. The position also calls for the ability to build sustainable, automated analytical processes, apply sound knowledge of Queensland Health priorities and system needs, and manage complex, time‑critical projects both independently and within a team. High‑level written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to cultivate productive stakeholder relationships and contribute to team capability by coaching and supporting peers.
