As a Data Scientist at Aurizon, you’ll create innovative, data-driven insights that help Australia’s largest rail freight operator achieve its strategic and operational goals. What you’ll do

  • Partner with business teams to identify opportunities and deliver impactful data science solutions.
  • Apply advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to uncover patterns, predict outcomes, optimise processes and solve real-world problems.
  • Build and maintain scalable models and tools that support decision-making.
  • Translate complex data outputs into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Contribute to best practices in data governance, integration, and innovation.

About you

  • A degree in a quantitative field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering) and/or minimum 2 years equivalent experience.
  • Experience applying statistical and machine learning methods to complex datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL or similar tools and libraries.
  • Familiarity with cloud or big data platforms (e.g. Fabric, Azure or similar).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts in a clear, approachable way.
  • A collaborative mindset — we value team members who are curious and eager to learn.
