Job Description

The Principal – Cyber Resilience Security Engineering Lead is responsible for strengthening the resilience, performance, and continuous evolution of Telstra's cyber security technologies. This role drives the design, optimisation, and strategic direction of cyber engineering capabilities to ensure Telstra can effectively detect, respond to, and withstand threats in a dynamic and high-risk environment.

The Opportunity

Join Telstra's Cyber Security Engineering team and play a pivotal role in protecting one of Australia's largest and most complex critical infrastructure environments. As a senior technology leader, you will operate across Telstra's full cyber ecosystem, partnering with engineering leaders and stakeholders to uplift capability, enhance system resilience, and modernise how cyber technologies are delivered and operated.

With Telstra rapidly adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI), this role presents a unique opportunity to embed innovative, AI-driven approaches into cyber security operations—enabling faster detection, response, and mitigation of increasingly sophisticated threats.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and enhance the resilience, design, and operational effectiveness of Telstra's cyber security technologies.
  • Partner with security architects and engineering teams to identify and implement innovative solutions.
  • Guide and contribute to the cyber security technology roadmap.
  • Collaborate across engineering, IT, and cyber security teams and external partners.
  • Drive simplification and optimisation of cyber systems and processes.
  • Deliver high-quality engineering outcomes aligned to business needs.
  • Stay ahead of emerging trends, including AI-driven security capabilities.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

About You

  • Proven experience developing and delivering cyber security technology roadmaps.
  • Strong expertise across cyber security technologies and systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience working within high-performing cyber engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of cyber operations and resilience capabilities.
  • Awareness of emerging trends, including AI-enabled security technologies.
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining technically hands-on.
