AI Automation Consultant

Fusion5
Melbourne, VIC
hybrid
Full Time / Permanent

The opportunity

You've spent your career understanding how businesses work: the processes, the people, the moving parts. You know where time gets lost, where smart people end up doing repetitive work that doesn't use their real skills, and you've always wished you could just fix it yourself rather than write a requirements document and wait.

Now you can.

The tools have changed. Modern AI has made it possible for people with strong business thinking to build real, working solutions, without needing a computer science degree. And Fusion5 is looking for someone who's ready to make that leap.

This is one of two founding roles in Fusion5's AI team. You'll report directly to the Director of AI, with executive sponsorship and a clear purpose: help our people spend their time on the work that matters most.

What you'll do

  • You'll work alongside teams across Fusion5: sitting with people in finance, services, sales, operations, and delivery to understand how they work today and where there's an opportunity to give them time back.
  • You'll be the person people trust to listen carefully and come back with something that actually helps.
  • You'll prototype end-to-end solutions: taking a real business problem and building a working version that proves the value. Not a slide deck. Not a requirements document. A functioning prototype that people can see, touch, and immediately understand.
  • You'll move fast, validate early, and show what's possible before anyone has to commit to a large build.
  • You'll be a circuit breaker. You'll constantly challenge the traditional ways we deliver technology: the lengthy requirements phases, the user stories, the handoffs, the waiting. Not because those approaches didn't serve a purpose, but because AI has opened up a faster, more direct path from problem to solution, and someone needs to prove it. That someone is you.
  • You'll work in close partnership with the AI Solutions Engineer. You'll bring the problem, the context, and the prototype: they'll bring the architecture, the security, and the enterprise rigour. Together, you'll take proven solutions from prototype to production.
  • You'll lean into each other constantly: learning from each other, challenging each other, and building things neither of you could build alone.
  • You'll help people rethink what's possible: coaching colleagues on how to work with AI tools, how to think about their own productivity differently, and how to develop confidence in using digital assistants as part of their daily workflow.
  • You'll keep it grounded: every solution you prototype needs a clear path to real, measurable value. You'll think about ROI, adoption, and sustainability because a clever automation that nobody uses isn't a solution.
  • You'll respect the foundations: security, data lineage, and governance are what make your solutions trustworthy. You'll build things people can rely on.

What we're looking for

  • You've worked in a functional or consulting role: business analysis, process improvement, solution design, project delivery, or similar. You understand how organisations actually operate, not just how org charts say they should.
  • You've started building with modern tools. Maybe it's Power Automate flows, maybe it's prompting AI to build something real, maybe you've connected systems in ways you didn't think you could six months ago. The shape of it doesn't matter: the curiosity does. You understand that AI has removed syntax and semantics as barriers. What matters now is clear thinking.
  • You translate naturally between business language and technical language. You're the person who can sit in a room with both audiences and make everyone feel heard.
  • You listen before you solve. You know the best outcomes come from deeply understanding the problem first.
  • You think commercially. You care about whether a solution creates value, not just whether it works.
  • You believe technology should make people's working lives better: simpler, more rewarding, less draining.
  • You're ready to learn fast and try things. You don't wait for perfect conditions.
  • You question the status quo. When you see a six-week delivery process that could be a six-day prototype, you say so: respectfully, but clearly.

Nice to have

  • You've already built automations or work flows using AI tools: Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Power Platform, Zapier, or anything else. All of it counts.
  • You have a basic understanding of how cloud platforms, APIs, and data flow through an organisation: not necessarily hands-on, but enough to know what questions to ask.
  • You're curious about concepts like vector databases, embeddings, or retrieval-augmented generation: even if you couldn't build one today, you want to understand how they work.
  • You've worked in or around ERP, CRM, or professional services environments.
  • You've facilitated workshops, run discovery sessions, or led process improvement work.
  • You know Fusion5, or a company like it, and you already have a sense of where the biggest opportunities are.
