Why Smart?

Look forward to working with Australia’s leading and most trusted provider of Employee Management Services, making the benefits of salary packaging, novated leasing, and fleet management readily available to employers and their employees.

Working at Smart offers more than a job. It is a dynamic workplace that matches the enthusiasm for the work you do and ambition for an exciting fast-paced career. We have all been hired for a purpose and a reason.

Every day you will be part of a team that helps support fellow Australians - many working in essential services, corporates, government, and not-for-profits - to take home more money in their pay packets.

Do you have what it takes to become a Senior AI Engineer?

We’re looking for a highly skilled Senior AI Engineer to join our AI Squad. You’ll help design, build, and operate production-grade AI systems that drive real business impact. The role requires strong engineering foundations, deep experience with Azure, and the ability to work across data, application, and AI layers.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and operate AI services and APIs for inference and retrieval (LLMs, RAG, ML models, agents) based on established designs and architectural guidance.
  • Develop secure, reliable data pipelines for training, retrieval, and evaluation, with clear governance, privacy, and audit expectations.
  • Contribute to the AI platform and MLOps toolchain: CI/CD for models, feature stores, model registry, experiment tracking, monitoring, and automated rollback.
  • Translate functional requirements into technical tasks; estimate effort and deliver to agreed success criteria.
  • Write clean, well-tested code in .NET and Python, following shared patterns and participating in reviews.
  • Run AI workloads in production with clear SLIs/SLOs for availability, latency, and cost; escalate and manage incidents effectively.
  • Apply security-by-design principles across all AI solutions, including prompt protections, data minimisation, content filtering, and robust access controls.
  • Maintain documentation, runbooks, and architectural decision records; contribute to reusable reference implementations.
