About this Role

As an AI Platforms Engineer, you will help transform how Life Without Barriers delivers support across Child Youth & Family, Disability & Mental Health and Aged Care services.

In this role, you'll help build the AI and automation capabilities behind a new, mobile first frontline application, designed to reduce administrative burden, surface timely insights and give staff more time to focus on the people we support.\

You will work with cutting edge technologies like large language models (LLMs), orchestration pipelines and retrieval augmented generation (RAG) to create secure, scalable and reusable AI solutions that make a real difference.

This is a 12-month full-time maximum term role. As the organisation explores scaling AI capability, if the role demonstrates clear value to the business, additional funding may be sought to continue building this capability within the organisation. Location is flexible.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain AI/ML components including NLP, conversational search and intelligent document automation.
  • Integrate LLMs and AI services using APIs, orchestration layers and RAG frameworks.
  • Build reusable AI platforms, prompt libraries and model orchestration pipelines across multiple domains.
  • Collaborate with developers, data engineers and architects to deliver secure, scalable AI features.
  • Develop data pipelines for training, fine tuning and inference with strong governance and ethical oversight.
  • Monitor AI performance, bias, accuracy and drift, implement responsible AI guardrails.
  • Automate model testing and deployment through CI/CD and align releases with change management policies.
  • Work closely with UX, product managers and business analysts to shape AI-enabled user experiences.
  • Liaise with cloud providers and vendors, ensuring cost efficient and flexible AI infrastructure.
Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience delivering AI/ML solutions in production environments.
  • Strong Expertise in cloud based AI services (AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, SageMaker, etc.).
  • Demonstrated MLOps experience, including pipelines, model monitoring and deployment automation.
  • Proficiency in Python and at least one other language (e.g. Node.js).
  • Solid understanding of LLM techniques (prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG).
  • Familiar with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow, as well as libraries and platforms for LLM development like Hugging Face and LangChain.
  • Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases, DuckDB and modern vector databases.
  • Strong API design and integration knowledge.
  • Deep understanding of responsible AI principles.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check.
