Where and how you can work

Our flagship Sydney campus is uniquely Canva - an extension of our Surry Hills neighbourhood. It's a thoughtfully designed space with plenty of room to collaborate, focus, and connect. This role is based in Sydney, and we're looking for someone who calls it home. Our hybrid way of working gives you the flexibility to work remotely, and to come together on campus for meaningful in-person collaboration and connection when it matters most. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you'd be doing in this role

As Canva continues to scale, change remains part of our DNA—and we like to think that's all part of the fun. What you'll work on when you start will likely evolve over time, but here's a flavour of what's ahead.

As a Data Scientist in the Video Group within Design Experience, you'll play a key role in shaping how we use data to deliver a quick, seamless video creation experience. At the moment this role is focused on:

  • Validating new UX in our most loved features through experiments: you'll work directly with Product Managers, Product Designers, and Engineers to deliver meaningful changes directly in the product, measure the impact, and support with the release decision.
  • Building dashboards and report to stakeholders: you'll build and maintain dashboards for your group's initiatives—with a particular focus on understanding trends in performance metrics (latency and error rates) and user adoption/retention. Our stakeholders seek regular updates on feature health and the results of our experiments.
  • Being a Strategic Thought Partner: you'll collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Design to identify opportunities where data can guide more strategic decision-making. Our Product team has appetite to continuously identify opportunities, and turning these ideas into quick wins through fast experimentation.

You're probably a match if

  • You have a proven track record of using data to influence business decisions and drive growth.
  • You bring strong technical fundamentals: hypothesis-driven problem solving, SQL, numerical reasoning, metric design and forecasting, insight generation, and data storytelling.
  • You have experience with experimentation, designing analytic events, and working with data warehouses.
  • You've worked with large datasets, and are comfortable in R or Python.
  • You have experience in a tech company that builds customer-facing web or mobile products, and understand industry concepts like product funnels and event tracking.
  • You have experience at a social media company, or a media agency, specifically with exposure to video analytics/content production processes and evaluation.
  • You have excellent soft skills: attention to detail, clear communication (both written and verbal), and the ability to translate complex data into compelling narratives.
  • A background in a STEM field (especially mathematics or statistics) is a plus.
  • Experience or interest in working with large language models (LLMs) and generative AI tools is desirable.

About the team

The Video Group sits within the Design Experience Supergroup and focuses on delivering a quick, seamless video creation experience that keeps Canva competitive in the fast-moving social media space. With ambitious growth targets for 2026 and beyond, we use data to drive product decisions that scale our user base while maintaining the speed and simplicity our users expect. Whether it's optimising the editing timeline, surfacing the right AI features at the right moment, or measuring what drives users from first video to power user — we put data at the centre of building a world-class video product.
