What's the role?

We are looking for a passionate and driven Data Scientist to join our AI Services team, where you will play a key role in building a centre of excellence in data science, aligned with the bank's strategic priorities. Our team's mission is to create better futures by empowering our people to deliver value to our customers through AI capabilities and promoting data responsibilities.

As a Data Scientist in this team, you will be focused on the design and delivery of end-to-end data science and AI initiatives that have real impact across the organisation. You will work closely with technology partners and business stakeholders to define project requirements and deliver high quality, customer focused solutions.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the bank's data and AI agenda by transforming insights into actions that enhance decision making, optimise operations, and elevate customer experiences. Your work will demonstrate the value of data science through practical application, technical excellence, and tangible business outcomes.

We're looking for a hands‑on AI / ML practitioner who has built, shipped, and supported real solutions in complex, regulated, corporate environments.

  • Solid industry experience designing, building, deploying and operating machine learning solutions in production, with clear examples of measurable business impact with experience applying LLMs and GenAI in real business contexts is strongly valued.
  • Practical experience with Generative AI and Large Language Models, including using these technologies to solve tangible problems, improve customer or employee experiences, and drive operational or commercial outcomes — not just experimentation or research.
  • A solid, applied understanding of modern deep learning techniques (including generative models and, where relevant, reinforcement learning), with experience translating theory into robust, scalable solutions that stand up in production.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or Keras, and a clear ability to choose the right tools for the problem at hand.
  • Proven experience working across NLP, GenAI and/or Computer Vision, including practical exposure to technologies such as:
    • LLMs and prompt‑based systems
    • Text analytics, speech/audio (e.g. speech‑to‑text), and document understanding
    • Image or vision‑based models
    • Platforms such as OpenAI APIs, Azure AI / Microsoft Cognitive Services, or equivalent enterprise services
  • Experience building LLM‑powered applications using frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, AutoGen, DSPy (or similar) — with an emphasis on orchestration, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), evaluation, and production readiness.
  • Familiarity with graph databases and how they are used in real‑world solution design (e.g. knowledge graphs, relationship modelling, or retrieval use cases).
  • Strong Python engineering skills, with a focus on readable, maintainable, testable code suitable for long‑lived enterprise systems.
  • Hands‑on experience working in cloud environments such as Azure or AWS, including deploying, operating, and supporting ML/AI workloads in secure, enterprise settings.
