Help build the future at the intersection of medicine, law and AI.

MEDirect is a market-leading Australian scale-up building Report Studio, our AI-powered medico-legal report assistant, and we’re looking for a Full Stack Engineer to work across product, platform, and internal systems as we scale.

This is a full-time remote role with a competitive salary package on offer. It’s a genuinely broad role where you’ll move between customer-facing product development, backend services, internal tooling, and migration work depending on where the highest-value priorities sit. It’s ideal for an engineer who enjoys variety, takes ownership, and is comfortable operating across multiple layers of the stack.

About the Role

This is a hands-on full stack role with strong variety and strong commercial relevance.

One sprint might involve building React features in Report Studio. Another might focus on FastAPI services, internal dashboards, or ETL work supporting legacy migration. We value engineers who are adaptable, delivery-focused, and willing to contribute wherever they can create the most leverage.

You will report to Andy Waugh, Technical Director, and work closely with product, AI, and operations teams across the business.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build and maintain frontend features using React 18, TypeScript, and modern UI/data tooling

  • Develop backend services and APIs using Python, FastAPI, and SQLAlchemy

  • Build internal productivity tools, dashboards, workflow automation, and reporting solutions

  • Contribute to ETL and integration work supporting migration from legacy systems

  • Work across Azure services including container apps, functions, storage, SQL databases, and Cosmos DB

  • Write unit and integration tests and contribute to a disciplined CI/CD engineering environment

  • Participate in code reviews and work within established delivery practices

  • Collaborate with AI and product teams through clear API contracts and shared engineering standards

What You’ll Bring

  • Around 2–3 years of hands-on software engineering experience across backend, frontend, or full stack environments

  • Strong Python backend capability, ideally using FastAPI or Django

  • Solid React and TypeScript fundamentals, with experience building real product features

  • Working knowledge of SQL and confidence reading schemas and working with application data

  • Exposure to Azure services and cloud-based application delivery

  • Comfort moving across the stack and picking up the layer that needs attention

  • Strong engineering discipline across branching, pull requests, testing, and deployment workflows

  • A practical mindset, strong initiative, and willingness to take ownership

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Django REST Framework

  • Exposure to Azure Data Factory or ETL pipeline development

  • Familiarity with Azure Container Apps, Azure Functions, Blob Storage, SQL Database, or Cosmos DB

  • Experience integrating with Azure AI, OpenAI APIs, or adjacent AI services

  • Experience in healthcare, legal, or other regulated-data environments

  • Background building internal business tools, reporting systems, or workflow automation

Why Join MEDirect

  • Join a market-leading Australian scale-up with real momentum and a strong growth trajectory

  • Help build the future at the intersection of medicine, law and AI

  • Contribute across both customer-facing product and business-critical internal systems

  • Build in an environment where your output is visible, valued, and closely tied to business outcomes

  • Work alongside a collaborative team in a fast-moving AI-first business

  • Help shape the future of medico-legal technology in Australia

  • Full-time remote role with a competitive salary package on offer
