AI and Data Protection Manager (Assistant Director)

The opportunity

As our AI and Data Protection Manager, you'll support the ongoing implementation and operation of EY Oceania's AI risk and data protection frameworks. You'll work with stakeholders across the business to assess new and evolving uses of AI and data, provide practical, risk-based advice, strengthen guidance and controls, guide the business through AI risk assessments, and support the management of data incidents. This role will enable the responsible use of AI and data by helping the business identify and manage associated regulatory, compliance, privacy, information security and operational risks.

This is a hybrid position based in Naarm – Melbourne, Warrang – Sydney, Boorloo – Perth or Meanjin – Brisbane. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Your key responsibilities

  • Support AI risk assessments and consultations for proposed AI tools, considering privacy, information security, regulatory and operational risks, and help develop and maintain standards and guidance for responsible AI and data use.
  • Provide timely, practical and risk-based AI and data protection advice to service lines, functions and project teams across business initiatives, technology changes and data-handling activities.
  • Support the ongoing implementation, administration and oversight of AI risk and data incident management tools and processes, including triage, risk assessment, stakeholder coordination, documentation, reporting, escalation, issue resolution, control monitoring and continuous improvement.

Skills and attributes for success

  • At least five years' experience in technology risk, data privacy or data protection, gained in-house or within a professional services environment.
  • Experience implementing, developing or overseeing AI risk assessments and associated risk management and operational processes.
  • Demonstrated experience providing practical AI and data protection advice on business initiatives, projects and technology implementations, together with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent relationship and interpersonal skills, with an inclusive, flexible and collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively in a busy, fast-paced environment.

Ideally, you'll also have the skills and attributes below but don't worry if you don't tick all the boxes. We're interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Information Technology, Innovation or Data Governance. Qualifications in privacy (CIPM), AI governance (AIGP), risk, or compliance would also be advantageous.
  • Experience implementing or overseeing incident management tools and associated operational processes.
  • Knowledge of AI governance, risk and regulatory frameworks, including the EU AI Act, Australian Government AI safety guardrails and Guidance for AI Adoption.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, curiosity and a collaborative growth mindset.
