As the Principal AI Product Owner, the key mission will be to drive the roadmap, agile delivery and adoption of next-generation operational intelligence that connects short-term mine planning, material tracking and execution. Success in this mission is the delivery of measurable improvements in plan-to-execution across mining and processing operations, bringing advancements in AI, optimisation and simulation to solve decision-support challenges across mine planning, mine control & fleet management systems.

This role is suited to senior individual contributors who lead through influence. It would suit candidates coming from a range of backgrounds, including mining technology innovators and product leaders, operations research and analytics specialists, and tech-forward mining systems experts. Regardless of background, the right candidate will bring a strong ability to connect operational problems to AI solutions and drive real adoption and outcomes.

As a forward-deployed product leader, your mission is to build close engagement with operations, ensure we get the feedback to rapidly build and iterate in live environments, and to navigate joint accountability to deliver operational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop a vision for how AI and analytics solutions can deliver on Fortescue's blend planning and execution challenges
• Develop business cases for these solutions, including value potential, delivery model and stakeholder alignment
• Work closely with operations management and teams to build a roadmap for the delivery of these systems, leading planning and OKR-setting processes
• Lead the product discovery and development process, using data analysis, user research and lean testing to manage uncertainty and accelerate time to prototype, MVP and operational impact
• Work closely with delivery teams to prioritise, bringing business and operational requirements to balance technical considerations, iterating quickly to learn
• Develop a measurement strategy, to track leading and lagging indicators of value
• Lead the change management process, including building awareness and engagement, and working with front-line operations and technical teams to drive user adoption, support process change and drive real outcomes

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated senior experience, either in product management, AI & analytics OR mining / processing operations technical disciplines (i.e. geology, mining engineering, metallurgy), typically 7+ years
• Advanced degree or equivalent practical experience in metallurgy, engineering, mathematics, computer science or a related field
• Experience in cross-functional teams, particularly business & technology
• Demonstrated ability to lead change through influence
• Ability to translate complex people and technical issues into solution requirements and change strategies
• Specific experience in AI & digital transformation of short-term mining and planning functions is highly regarded
