We exist to create unique, everybody-wins value for retailers and their customers. While we are rapidly evolving our products set, our platform is already used by some of the largest retailers in the market including Kmart, Country Road, Chemist Warehouse, JD Sports and hundreds more.

Why is Slyp a great place to work?
Founded by former PayPal executives, the Slyp “village” has attracted top-notch talent from around the globe. Our inclusive environment allows Slypster’s to unleash their creativity and drive, all while being part of a movement that’s shaking things up for the better. This is a high-impact role in a fast-growing company with real-world reach. You will have autonomy, ownership, and direct access to leadership whilst working with a fun, supportive team that’s passionate about what we’re building.

Job purpose

As a Data Engineer, you’ll join the team that owns our AWS datalake - designing pipelines, models and frameworks that power production-grade data products and enable the business to scale. You’ll bring modern data practices into production, working with streaming, lakehouse tech and CI/CD workflows. You’ll have the autonomy to influence the direction of our data platform, working both independently and as a team player, collaborating with stakeholders to shape our next data-driven features. You’ll contribute to early groundwork that positions our data platform to adopt AI and agentic workflow capabilities as our product roadmap evolves.
  • 3+ years in data engineering, with experience designing and supporting production data products.
  • Proficient in SQL and Python, with Spark and dbt experience.
  • Demonstrable hands-on use of the AWS data stack (S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena, Redshift).
  • Experience with Terraform or similar IaC tools.
  • Comfortable with developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of lakehouse formats (Hudi/Iceberg).
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and engage effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with AWS Quicksight or similar visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker).
  • Experience in personalisation and experimentation (e.g. AWS Personalize, A/B testing frameworks).
Job Responsibilities:
  • Partner with product and commercial teams to understand requirements and produce datasets powering reporting, ML and experimentation use cases.
  • Take ownership of data projects end-to-end - from design through to delivery, and measuring the success of your contribution.
  • Manage and evolve our datalake using the AWS data stack (S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena, Redshift) supporting analytics, ML and platform use cases.
  • Design and orchestrate production-grade data pipelines with SQL, Python, Spark, dbt and Airflow.
  • Integrate external/internal data sources through streaming and batch delivery.
  • Implement CI/CD, testing and monitoring to ensure our systems are reliable and scalable.
  • Contribute to data architecture decisions and apply industry best practices.

Job Benefits:

  • Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP).
  • Generous L&D program - $1500 budget per anniversary for you to use towards honing your craft.
  • Slyp Gives - we run 2 community give back days each year.
  • Competitive leave policies including parental leave.
  • Flexible work and the option to work from anywhere in the world for a period of time.
  • Pet friendly office, lunch and learns and always on team fun and Slyp experience program.
