About the role
The AI Engineer is responsible for delivering high quality engineering outcomes against agreed objectives and working interdependently on shared team goals. This role is a hands-on technical delivery role focused on building, deploying and operating enterprise grade AI capabilities in production. The role is primarily accountable for hands-on engineering delivery, platform contribution and reliable BAU outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and operate enterprise LLM/GenAI solutions integrated with Snowflake, dbt Cloud and approved cloud services.
- Design and implement RAG capabilities over governed enterprise data and documentation.
- Deliver secure conversational AI and agentic AI solutions with appropriate guardrails and governance controls.
- Implement LLMOps/MLOps and CI/CD pipelines for AI applications, including monitoring, evaluation and deployment automation.
- Monitor and optimise AI solution quality, reliability, latency and cost.
- Partner with data engineering and business stakeholders to deliver AI products aligned to enterprise data models and business outcomes.
- Contribute to reusable AI engineering standards, templates and best practices across the organisation.
Key Selection Criteria
Education / Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Bachelor's degree or higher preferred
- Demonstrated experience operating at a senior/principal level in AI, ML, or LLM engineering (or related field), delivering production outcomes
- Healthcare and/or retail industry experience desirable
Knowledge & Skills
- Highly developed organisational and planning skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong time management and prioritisation skills
- Proven experience delivering AI/ML/LLM solutions and data products in production environments (build, run, monitor, optimise)
- Strong Python engineering capability, including clean code practices, testing, and packaging
- Strong SQL and data engineering fundamentals
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including security, performance optimisation, and cost management
- Experience with dbt Cloud, including data modelling, environments, and Git workflows
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for data and AI products
- Strong understanding of automated testing, including unit, integration, data quality, and regression testing
- Solid data modelling fundamentals with focus on dimensional and semantic consistency
- Strong understanding of security and governance by design, including RBAC/RLS, masking, and logging
- Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and senior engineers to deliver high-quality production outcomes
