The Search Platform Experience team builds intuitive, fast, and reliable search experiences that help millions of Atlassian users discover information across Atlassian products and connected third-party tools. We are evolving search beyond traditional links toward richer, AI-powered experiences that help users move from intent to insight and action.

As a Software Engineer on the team, you will design, build, and operate customer-facing search features. This is a frontend-leaning role with opportunities to contribute across the stack. You will work with engineers, product managers, designers, data scientists, and machine learning engineers to deliver high-quality experiences from initial design through production. You will independently own complex tasks and well-scoped projects, contribute to technical decisions, and help improve the codebase and engineering practices of the team.

What you'll do

• Design, build, test, and operate accessible, high-quality search experiences using React, TypeScript, and modern web technologies.
• Deliver features end to end, including technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Contribute to backend services and integrate APIs that connect customer experiences with search, AI, and data platforms.
• Partner with product, design, data science, and machine learning teams to translate customer problems into effective technical solutions.
• Improve the performance, reliability, accessibility, and maintainability of the experiences you build.
• Use customer feedback, product data, and experimentation to improve search discoverability, usability, and engagement.
• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, incident response, and operational support.
• Improve team productivity through better tooling, documentation, reusable components, and engineering practices.
• Share knowledge and constructive feedback that helps teammates grow and raises the quality of the team's work.

Compensation

We follow consistent hiring practices and account for each candidate's skills, knowledge, and experience when setting base pay within the range. This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

On your first day, we'll expect you to have

• 2+ years of relevant software engineering experience building and delivering production software.
• Experience developing modern web applications using React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, or comparable technologies.
• Experience designing reusable components and building responsive, accessible user interfaces.
• Experience integrating frontend applications with RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
• A solid understanding of software design, data structures, testing practices, and debugging.
• Experience taking ownership of features through design, implementation, release, and production operation.
• A commitment to writing readable, tested, maintainable, and performant code.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with engineering, product, and design partners.
• The ability to navigate ambiguity, make sound technical decisions within your scope, and communicate risks or blockers proactively.

It would be great if you have

• Experience contributing to backend services using Node.js, Java, Kotlin, or a comparable technology.
• Experience with large-scale SaaS products and cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Familiarity with search, information retrieval, AI-powered products, or data-rich user experiences.
• Experience with experimentation, product analytics, observability, or frontend performance optimization.
• Experience working with shared component libraries or design systems.
