Senior AI Engineer - Azure AI Foundry

Fusion5
Melbourne, VIC | Adelaide, SA | Sydney, NSW
Full Time / Permanent

The opportunity

You've built AI systems that actually work - not demos that fall apart under real conditions, but production-grade solutions running on real enterprise data, under real security constraints, delivering real outcomes. You know the difference between a RAG pipeline that impresses in a proof of concept and one that holds up when a thousand users hit it with edge cases it wasn't designed for.

At Fusion5, you'll be the engineer who makes that difference for Australian enterprise clients. We're building out our AI practice and we need people who understand that the hard part of AI isn't the model - it's the integration, the reliability, the governance, and the discipline to write code that doesn't collapse six months after you've moved on to the next engagement.

This is a client-facing role, which means you'll be close to the problem, not just the solution. You'll work inside delivery squads alongside architects and functional consultants, own the technical delivery end-to-end, and leave clients with something that genuinely improves how their organisation works.

What you'll do

You'll design and build agentic AI solutions on Azure - production-grade systems using Azure AI Foundry, LangGraph, RAG architectures, and multi-agent orchestration - integrated with the enterprise APIs, ERP systems, and data platforms clients actually run their business on.

You'll write real code. Python and C# for Azure Functions, FastAPI services, and the connective tissue that turns a capable AI model into a useful enterprise application.

You'll own code quality - reviewing, testing, and deploying through Azure DevOps pipelines - because AI-assisted development raises the ceiling only if engineering rigour keeps the floor solid.

You'll work directly with clients: gathering requirements, presenting architectural options, explaining trade-offs, and demoing working systems to stakeholders who aren't always technical.

And you'll contribute to Fusion5's AI practice - building reusable components, shaping delivery standards, and bringing back what you learn from each engagement.

Tech stack:

  • Azure AI Foundry
  • Azure OpenAI
  • Python
  • C#
  • LangChain / LangGraph
  • RAG architectures
  • Azure Functions
  • Azure DevOps
  • Semantic Kernel
  • Azure AI Search

What we're looking for

  • You've spent 4+ years writing production code and you have the scars to show for it - you know what breaks in real environments and how to prevent it.
  • You've built on Azure AI services hands-on: AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, Functions, or Logic Apps - not just read the documentation.
  • Your Python and/or C# is genuinely strong. You write code other engineers want to maintain.
  • You've designed and shipped RAG pipelines, LLM orchestration systems, or agentic workflows - and you understand the failure modes as well as the happy path.
  • You're comfortable integrating AI with enterprise systems: APIs, databases, ERP platforms, identity providers - the real plumbing of large organisations.
  • You can explain your architecture to a technical lead and to a business sponsor, and you adjust how you explain it without losing accuracy.
  • You apply SDLC discipline - version control, code review, CI/CD, monitoring - and you don't treat AI development as exempt from engineering standards.

Nice to have

  • Microsoft Azure certifications (AI Engineer Associate, Solutions Architect Expert).
  • Consulting or professional services experience - you know how to manage client relationships alongside technical delivery.
  • Familiarity with Power Platform and Copilot Studio for hybrid low-code/pro-code delivery.
  • Experience with Dynamics 365, SAP, or other enterprise ERP integrations.
  • Published work, open-source contributions, or a GitHub profile that tells a story.

What we offer

Real AI delivery
Production AI systems for real enterprise clients - not internal experiments or proof of concepts that go nowhere.

Microsoft ecosystem depth
Work at the cutting edge of Azure AI Foundry, Copilot, and the full Microsoft AI stack with direct access to Microsoft resources.

Small squads, big impact
Tight delivery squads where your technical decisions actually matter - not a large team where your work disappears into the machine.

Growth path
Clear progression toward Principal Engineer and Solution Architect roles as the AI practice scales.

Learning investment
Certification support, conference access, and time to experiment. We need you to stay current and we support you in doing it.

Why this role matters

Australian enterprises are making real decisions about AI right now - not planning to, not experimenting in isolation, but committing investment and staking business outcomes on it. The difference between those initiatives succeeding and failing often comes down to the quality of the engineering underneath them.

Fusion5's AI practice exists to be the partner that gets this right. The Senior AI Engineer - Azure AI Foundry is the technical backbone of that delivery. When you build something for a client, it doesn't get thrown away at the end of the engagement. It goes into production, it gets used by real people, and it either works or it doesn't. We need engineers who understand what that means and find it motivating, not intimidating.

How to Apply

Ready to build AI solutions that deliver real business outcomes? If you're an experienced software engineer with a passion for Azure AI, enterprise integration, and production-grade delivery, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now with your CV and any supporting materials that showcase your technical expertise, such as GitHub projects, open-source contributions, or relevant certifications. Candidates with hands-on experience in Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Python, C#, and enterprise AI solutions will be highly regarded.

Join Fusion5 and help shape the future of enterprise AI across Australia.
