Our Opportunity

Work Location: Fortescue Centre - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

Fortescue is transforming its business through Artificial Intelligence, bringing our unique culture of innovation and leading through doing to transform our asset and employee productivity. The key mission of this role will be to design, develop and lead the deployment of AI and analytics solutions that transform our mine control and remote operations. Success in this mission is the delivery of measurable improvements in operational productivity across complex large-scale mining operations, from daily mine plan through to execution.

This role is suited to senior professionals who have delivered advanced analytics, optimisation or AI systems in mining or heavy industry. This may include process engineers, mining engineers, or data scientists who have worked hands-on with operational data and production systems. The right candidate will bring a strong curiosity and technical skillset, with a drive for delivering outcomes and working systems in cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development and testing of AI and analytics solutions
  • Identify and validate opportunities to improve these systems to deliver operational benefits
  • Lead a forward-deployed delivery team to accelerate analysis, delivery and testing of opportunities across the portfolio
  • Work closely with front-line and operational support teams to drive adoption
  • Design measurements to quantify and validate operational impact
  • Working with Product Owners to balance operational requirements, technical constraints and delivery timelines
  • Communicate the basis, impact and value of AI-enabled decision support tools
  • Mentor delivery team specialists (data engineers, data scientists and ML engineers, software engineers) including a mix of dedicated and matrix team members

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree or equivalent practical experience in engineering, data science, statistics, computer science or a related field
  • 7+ years' experience leading delivery of analytics or AI solutions in mining or heavy industry, including system design responsibility and cross-functional team leadership
  • Demonstrated experience working with mine control and operational problems such as dispatch optimisation, fleet management and mine scheduling
  • Strong Python skills and familiarity with modern data platforms (e.g. Databricks, Snowflake, cloud storage)
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into operational outcomes
