About the Department

The role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives. It does this by supporting lifelong learning and healthy development, strengthening families and helping to equip people with the skills and knowledge for a 21st century economy and society.

About the Branch

The Information Management Branch oversees how data is collected, organised, distributed, and utilised across schools, early childhood education, corporate offices, and the Department. Focus areas include the Data Governance Council and custodianship model, ensuring accountability and stewardship of data; advanced analytics; Business Intelligence (BI); Artificial Intelligence (AI), including Generative AI (Gen AI); Master Data Management (MDM) for data integrity; and the use of data warehousing for effective data organisation. By collaborating with stakeholders, initiatives are aligned with departmental goals, fostering data-driven decision-making to improve educational and wellbeing outcomes for children and students.

About the Role

This role is responsible for managing and supporting initiatives that enable the purposeful adoption of artificial intelligence across the Department of Education. You will work closely with diverse stakeholder groups to plan, manage, and execute small to medium-scale projects that unlock the value of AI and drive meaningful improvements for educators, students, and the broader community.

By exploring what's possible through AI, you will contribute to dynamic problem-solving and support the department's transformation journey. The role involves end-to-end project management, contract oversight, and stakeholder engagement to ensure successful delivery of AI initiatives that create real impact on the ground.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing small to medium-scale projects, ideally in technology or innovation-related areas, with a focus on delivering tangible outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse groups and translate complex concepts into practical solutions.
  • A collaborative mindset and a passion for leveraging technology to improve processes and outcomes in an education setting.
  • An understanding of AI concepts, data, or data governance principles, and how these can be applied to solve real-world challenges (formal qualifications are beneficial but not mandatory).

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications or strong experience in business, project management, or related fields.
  • Experience in AI, data, or data governance, or a demonstrated interest in these areas.
  • Experience working in public sector or regulated environments is highly desirable.
