Data Scientist

Telix Pharmaceuticals
Melbourne, VIC
hybrid
Full Time / Permanent

Telix Pharmaceuticals is a dynamic, fast-growing radiopharmaceutical company with offices in Australia (HQ), Belgium, Japan, Switzerland, and the United States. Our mission is to deliver on the promise of precision medicine through targeted radiation. At our core, we exist to create products that seek to improve the quality of life for people living with cancer and rare diseases. You will be supporting the international roll-out of our approved prostate cancer imaging agent and helping us to advance our portfolio of late clinical-stage products that address significant unmet need in oncology and rare diseases.

See Yourself at Telix

Telix is seeking a skilled and dynamic Data Scientist to contribute to the achievement of the Group's strategic goals by analysing and interpreting complex clinical and non-clinical data, including medical images, to develop predictive models using statistical and machine learning/deep learning techniques, in support of the Telix radiopharmaceutical portfolio. As a growth area of research and development for Telix, the candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the company's imaging and clinical decision support software platform, by developing new and novel models that utilise clinical data from the company's diagnostic imaging tracers as well as therapy products, and building a comprehensive suite of insight driven applications.

The Data Scientist will report to the Director of AI Research but will also work closely with the Global Director of Digital Products, Image management team, and Telix's internal research, clinical and project teams across multiple disciplines.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Analyze and interpret clinical data generated from Telix radiopharmaceuticals, including imaging (PET, SPECT), biomarker, and patient outcomes data, to inform clinical outcomes and decision making.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to integrate diverse data sources, including clinical trial data, medical imaging, and electronic health records, into cohesive datasets suitable for analysis.
  • Apply machine learning techniques, particularly using automated machine learning (AutoML) and/or "zero code" platforms, to analyze large-scale data from clinical studies, including image processing, diagnostic prediction, and personalized medicine algorithms.
  • Develop clear and informative visualizations to communicate data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including clinical teams, regulatory agencies, and senior management.
  • Ensure that all data science activities comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EU CE Mark), maintaining data integrity, privacy and security throughout.
  • Work with external collaborators, including nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, and oncologists, to identify new opportunities for data science to improve patient care and treatment outcomes.
  • Assist pre-clinical and early-stage development teams to identify tools, predictive models and algorithms to discover relevant new targets and compounds and to assess their suitability, efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of these radiopharmaceutical compounds for further development.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to design trial protocols with data-driven insights and ensure that data collected is clean, valid, and ready for analysis. Incorporate data analysis and AI techniques into trial protocols that can improve efficiency and optimize recruitment and time-based analysis through predictive algorithms.
  • Maintain an awareness of the current literature and developments in the field to identify best industry practice and keep up with the state of the art.
  • Contribute to the Telix intellectual property (IP) portfolio through patents and publications.
  • Uphold and work in accordance to the Telix values.

Position Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Master's or PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Physics) or a related field is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in data science, with a focus on clinical data analysis or biomedical applications, preferably in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industries.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (including Jupyter notebooks), R, MatLab and SQL.
  • Strong experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn) and statistical modeling.
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to turn complex clinical and scientific data into actionable insights.
  • Experience with medical imaging data analysis (PET, CT, MRI, SPECT), and AI applications in radiopharmaceuticals or oncology.
  • Familiarity with clinical data management systems (e.g., Medidata, EDC platforms) and healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, DICOM).
  • Understanding of clinical trial design, biomarkers, and the drug development process, particularly in the field of radiopharmaceuticals or oncology.
  • Awareness of FDA, EU CE Mark, and other regulatory requirements and guidelines related to medical devices (Software as a Medical Device – SaMD), clinical trial data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) for data processing and storage.

Key Capabilities:

  • Inclusive mindset: Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for diversity, and actively work to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected
  • Creativity and innovation: Possess a willingness to think outside the box and come up with unique and creative solutions to challenges
  • Commitment to excellence: Take pride in your work and consistently strive for excellence in everything you do
  • Results-oriented: Driven to achieve goals and objectives, with a strong focus on delivering measurable results
  • Ethical behavior: Act with integrity and demonstrate a commitment to ethical behavior in all interactions with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic environment, able to adjust to changing priorities, and willing to take on new challenges
  • Strong communication skills: Able to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, using clear and concise language
  • Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a team, actively sharing knowledge and expertise to achieve common goals
  • Resilience: Demonstrate the ability to bounce back from setbacks and persevere in the face of challenges
  • Continuous learning: Show a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development, continually seeking out opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills
