The Opportunity
We’re very excited to be expanding our Digital Solutions team at Veris. In this research and development role, you will join a team of spatial scientists working on the development of innovative geospatial solutions. Our main aim is to bring value to clients and expand our solutions into new areas, and we’re looking for candidates that enjoy solving complex problems and excel in a dynamic environment.
  
Spatial innovation at Veris will involve the application of various tools and disciplines within data mining, computer vision, web visualisation, machine learning and VR/AR to develop platforms and identify trends, patterns and insights from data. Our spatial data scientists extract meaning from location-based data to uncover insights and enable clients to use data in their business decision making. This role at Veris will involve:

As a Spatial Data Scientist you will be involved in solving our clients’ problems and developing novel spatial solutions. This will primarily involve feature extraction from 3D point clouds and imagery gathered from mobile mapping systems, UAVs and other capture systems. Your activities at Veris will involve: 
  • Developing innovative solutions to complex geospatial problems
  • Researching and advising on the options and recommending solutions for solving the problems
  • Identifying all the relevant data sources to solve the business needs 
  • Building spatial analytics, predictive models and/or machine learning algorithms to extract features from our captured spatial data, particularly point clouds and drone imagery 
  • Developing and/or extending web platforms to solve a range of client needs  
  • Processing, cleansing & verifying spatial datasets
About You
As a client facing business it is essential that you are actively involved with Veris’ clients. You will be an active team member, and as a senior member of the team will mentor and guide less experienced team members. You will also support senior leaders to engage with clients on a range of spatial problems. The role will involve creating reports, visualisations and industry presentations.
Experience you will need:
  • Tertiary qualifications in survey, engineering, geospatial or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with coding, debugging, and testing, , or a PhD in a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated spatial machine learning and coding experience to extract features from point cloud and/or imagery data.
  • Ability to develop high quality project scope and requirements documentation.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and present information in a simple, effective, and inclusive way.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as an effective team member.
  • A commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and professionalism in all your dealings.
