AI Enablement Lead

Our AI Enablement lead will drive Stonnington's AI strategy, governance, adoption and change agenda, supporting the organisation to improve service delivery, reduce excessive administration, and enhance the experience we provide for our employees and community. As the organisation's AI subject matter expert, you will work across all areas, partnering with leaders, employees and key stakeholders to translate emerging AI opportunities into real business outcomes, while ensuring strong governance, transparency and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain Council's AI enablement roadmap, aligned to organisational strategy, community expectations and emerging state and sector guidance (including the forthcoming MAV AI Roadmap for Local Government).
  • Set priorities for AI adoption based on service impact, risk, organisational readiness.
  • Assess opportunities to adopt AI capabilities being introduced or part of the existing technology vendor portfolio.
  • Report to executive and, where relevant, Council on progress, risks and benefits realised.
  • Work directly with service units to identify where AI could improve services.
  • Build simple business cases and benefit-tracking approaches so that pilots can be evaluated honestly, including where a use case should be stopped.
  • Act as the first point of contact for staff and managers on whether a proposed AI use is appropriate and escalate higher-risk or novel use cases for further assessment as part of corporate governance.
  • Anticipate and work through resistance, scepticism and job-security concerns openly and respectfully.
  • Design and deliver (or coordinate delivery of) staff training on safe and effective AI use, including prompting practice, output verification, and recognising unsuitable use cases.
  • Liaise with IT/digital teams on integration, data handling and security requirements for any approved tools.

Join us in this full time, 12-month fixed term opportunity, offering a competitive salary range of $131,259 - $146,126 plus 12% superannuation and a monthly accrued day off.

Desired Skills and Experience

What you'll need to succeed:

  • A degree in Technology, Business Systems or equivalent is required, though lesser formal qualifications may be acceptable if extensive and diverse experience, or intensive specialist experience is demonstrated.
  • Substantial experience in working in local government environment is highly desirable.
  • Highly proficient in systems thinking, IT project coordination, IT change and release management and business and technical communication with a strong ability to apply these skills in a practical work setting in a complex or large environment.
  • Experience in the business use cases and capabilities supported by new AI technologies.
  • Skilled in building cooperation and gaining support from clients, the public, and other Employees to efficiently manage activities and supervise team members.
  • An understanding of consultation obligations that apply when technology changes how work is performed, and ability to work constructively with People & Culture, OHS and, where relevant, employee representatives.
  • Experience designing and delivering training or guidance to a broad, non-technical staff audience, adjusted for different levels of digital confidence.
