The Opportunity

ASIO is seeking to fill Software Developer - Artificial Intelligence positions in Canberra and Sydney.

A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.

The key duties of the position include:

Role responsibilities

As a Software Developer - Artificial Intelligence, you will:

  • Join a team of highly experienced data scientists and engineers responsible for evaluating, developing, integrating and deploying leading edge artificial intelligence services and products in support of ASIO's mission.
  • Work in a computing rich environment, including dedicated GPU infrastructure, to drive innovation.
  • Be responsible for developing new software leveraging artificial intelligence, and enhancing existing software, to meet organisational needs and solve user problems in support of ASIO's mission.
  • Plan and develop code in a secure, maintainable and sustainable manner in accordance with organisational standards and industry best practice.

Eligibility

What you will bring

For ITE 1.1 roles we invite applications from candidates with the following attributes:

  • Technology skills.
  • Some relevant software development experience.
  • An aptitude and desire to learn.

SITE C candidates should be able to demonstrate well-developed software developer skills and experience that meet most of the following criteria whilst ITE 2 applicants should show skills and experience across many of the following:

Required skills

  • Strong proficiency in the development of code in one or more programming languages (including Python).
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with software development practices.
  • Experience with Source Control.
  • Conceptual knowledge and hands-on experience with developing applications or services where artificial intelligence is a significant component.
  • Experience with containerisation technologies.
  • Experience leveraging artificial intelligence to assist with coding and related tasks.
  • A willingness to keep up to date with changes and innovations in artificial intelligence.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts to a variety of senior stakeholders with a range of technical experience.
  • The ability to collaborate in cross functional teams that include technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Other desirable skills and experience

  • Experience with some of the following technologies: APIs, CI/CD tools, data storage platforms and artificial intelligence capabilities.
  • Tertiary qualification in artificial intelligence / data science, computer science, mathematics / statistics or relevant STEM related fields is desirable but not essential.

Employment conditions

Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
